Ok so I want to talk about Hawkeye’s eyes here
because they look exactly the same as Loki’s when we first see him in Avengers, when he arrives through the portal on Earth
Sunken, tired, almost bruised
Think about this a moment. Your spirit/soul/mind is pushed away and something, someone, else is put into its place. Don’t you think that’d have a physical toll on your body? You’re in there somewhere, struggling— you’re not right, or balanced, or you. It’s like you’re sick, and it shows.
Loki was being mind-controlled at some point; people have theories he was the whole movie, until the Hulk smashed him, but I disagree— I think he was before he was sent down to Earth. It explains his whole idea of freedom from freedom, and why the Chitauri (sp?) needed to barge in on his thoughts at one point to remind him of the consequences of not doing as they asked. Hell— that’s probably WHY they could do so. It’s not like he was transported somewhere to have a chat— they broke into his mind to have a chat, set it up on that cold alien rock with the weird slithering creatures. (Notice also how in that scene Loki immediately ‘changes’ into his formal battle armor?)
Anyway I’m excited someone giff’ed this part because it draws the parallels really well and helps me confirm my own theory about the whole mind-control thing
I am one of those who believes that Loki was under some degree of mind control until he got Hulk-Smashed, but I agree that the physical parallels of Hawkeye (and Dr Selvig) with Loki in the first scenes showcase this, and make it clear that we the audience has no idea what has happened to Loki since the end of Thor, and for us to definitively know his situation, mental health and motives is impossible.
Lord in Heaven bless this post.
